The Weekend Warrior: Big Smoke Combo

Paul Keating once said “If you (live in Australia and) don’t live in Sydney then you’re camping out”. I don’t know about that but Sydney is an amazing city, no doubt about it.
I was in town for a mate’s 30th on 13-14 October and was lucky enough to scam some floor space with a friend who’s living in North Bondi. How’s the view?!
Sydney has an incredibly beautiful, featured coastline, home to an unreal lineup of beaches, bays and points scattered up and down the metro coast. New South Wales rarely gets the raw ocean swells WA cops so the waves are generally softer, but they’re so fun!
Sydney surfers are famous for their small wave skills, especially at North Narrabeen, the performance centre of Sydney surfing.
Sydney houses some pretty interesting crew. Colourful, meditating crew…
Bird crew…
Some more bird crew…
It was an unreal trip.
I didn’t get a chance to roll out the Sydney issue last week so I’ve combo’d two weekends into one, compact issue. Last weekend was pretty mediocre for surf back in WA. Surfing WA ran it’s West Oz board-riders teams comp down at Scarborough Beach at the Manning Street bank which spiced things up a bit.
The teams comp is a pretty prestigious event in the WA surf calendar which attracts some of WA’s best surfers to help spur their club to victory - Yadin Nicol, Ry Craike, James Catto and Kerby Brown to name a few.
Brett Hardy was killing it in the sloppy, onshi conditions, launching skyward at every opportunity.
There were some bowly ones popping up, too; you just had to be in the right place at the right time.
There’s a new swell on the radar for the weekend but the winds are looking pretty ordinary with howling southerlies forecast for Saturday and SSE’lies for Sunday...there will be something around though if you’re keen. Enjoy!
